sparkling lights and moonlight

hong kon full moonHong Kong is for me the city of all lights – like a big diamond brooch.

Before Japan we gave Hong Kong 5 nights.

It was 35 years since I visit Hong Kong last time and I can’t say it has changed that much, in height maybe – there was plenty new builds (hotels, apartments and offices), but not so that Hong Kong have changed it’s old profile.all hands on deck, star ferry

I have always said that so long as the Star Ferries runs, I will find my way around Hong Kong and they still runs in the same old style.

As a true tourist in Hong Kong you just have to watch the “Symphony of Lights” that happens every evening 8pm. But here it went wrong between Hong Kong and me. There wasn’t much different with the ordinary lights that Hong Kong offers every evening, every hour. I became so disappointed, not all what I expected.

But the best light display was without any doubt was the full moon that evening.  We taken us over to the Kowloon side and stood on the Avenue of Stars. Was able  to get a shot when it stood high over the AIA Insurance building on the Hong Kong side of the harbor. So the distance between me and the moon was very fare.

After the light show we went for dinner at the Galley Cafe & Dinning” at Heritage 1881 – the former Marine Police Headquarters that  was constructed in 1884. An amazing transformation of the old building has been done …. done into a little luxury hotel, shopping and eating. A magnificent building where the old features has been brought to life and light without destroying the original. We had a lovely meal out on the terrace in the warm evening under the full moon. I had fantastic lamp chops with herb and French mustard crunch. We took the last ferry back to Wan Chai (灣仔) just after 11pm.

No, I like the natural magical lights the Hong Kong brings every night more. Maybe there has been a cute down in light displays because of cost or environment. Hong Kong is such a sparkling city in itself – and a couple of spotlights and background music didn’t make any impact on me.

Sorry, Hong Kong! I love you just the way you’re when you are naked.

  1. 🙂 Thank you for the pictures – it feels like I’m back in Hong Kong now when I see them. We were also very disappointed int he Symphony of Lights – it seemed to be a big advertisement show instead. However, we took the aqua luna boat one evening and made the best of it from the sea side. That was nice.
Sleep tight and many hugs xo 🙂

    • Dia, thank you ….. yes, there is something very special about Hong Kong *smile. So glad I did my stop over. There will be more about this magical city with all it’s many faces. Yes, that light show didn’t make any impact on me. Was thinking of taking a harbor cruise but glad I didn’t waste those money. Glad you had a great time. I would have been so upset. *laughing

  2. How did I manage to unfollow you? Been missing my friend and her posts… glad you commented today and made me aware of it…. so all I can say is “I’m back”

    • You have been missed, but I haven’t been active visiting you neither. Just back from 24 days in Hong Kong and Japan …. so there is loads of images and writing about my magical tour. I just love to know that you’re out there … and that you both are doing well. Welcome back!

  3. Hong Kong is another city that never sleeps, A place always buzzing with life and people who love living the night life to the fullest, Work hard play hard as the saying goes. The last photo though? It really lets you take a step into the past doesn’t it? 🙂

    • Yes, Hong Kong is very cool and you are never getting bored with that city, but I don’t think I would like to live there. A city to take in … in small portions at the time. So intense, just like NYC.

    • Hong Kong is manic … mad house – but it’s in my book on of the most beautiful harbor cities in the world. Like a big diamond brooch. It was really nice to be back.
