lens-artists photo challenge #93 – morning

I don’t really adapt very well to COVID-19, except when I’m going out and about.

What helps me through my anxiety and fear, is my travel memories … and the foresight for the travelling I hope it’ll be able to do later this year and next year.

“When you wake up in the morning, Pooh,” said Piglet at last, “what’s the first thing you say to yourself?”
“What’s for breakfast?” said Pooh. “What do you say, Piglet?”
“I say, I wonder what’s going to happen exciting today?” said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully. “It’s the same thing,” he said.”

My mornings today is the same … as before the virus. Nothing has changed, maybe that I appraise more that I’m able to bring the breakfast with me back to bed to watch the first Swedish morning news and CNN.

My mornings … if I wake up!!!! That is the most important thing … but after that, I only have one thing on my mind: BREAKFAST!!!

Especially if I’m travelling.

“All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.”
John Gunther

Normal I stay at hotels where the breakfast is included … but when I stay in apartments, the breakfast has to happen so close as possible to my bed. Too lazy doing my own when I’m travelling on my own.

One of the best breakfast I enjoyed at the little beautiful  Cafe Libertas in Gdańsk which I had googled before take off. Only 2 minutes’ walk from my front door. Absolutely superb, both food and service – November 2019

“Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right.”
Mark Twain

Free champagne for breakfast???!!!

It happened in Porto last time I visited together with my best friend, Anna Liisa. We rented a fantastic apartment just steps from Cais da Ribeira (the riverfront). There the fantastic Pestana Vintage Porto 4-star hotel served a fantastic al fresco breakfast for 9.00€ just on the edge of the River Douro. Every morning we enjoyed their fabulous breakfast served at the small tables out in the morning sunshine … for my birthday we were served free champagne, but this image is from our last breakfast and again free champagne. A World Class service and food – September 2019

Breakfast in a rush when I visited my friends, Lizbeth and Neville, in La Vila Joiosa, Spain. Scramble egg and green asparagus before my 3-hour bus journey with  Exclusive Airport Shuttle from Alicante Airport to Mojácar and 6 days with my friends, Liz and Ian. – October 2018

“There are times when breakfast seems
the one thing worth getting up for.”
Peter De Vries

And no NYC visit without a great Reuben sandwich. City Cafe on 35 W 43rd St  New York, NY 10036. One of those old fashion diners with excellent food, but the worst coffee in the world .… and this was excellent !! The establishment’s description of their Reuben: Corn beef, Swiss cheese, pastrami, coleslaw, melted cheese, and Russian dressing on rye toast. Served with curly spicy fries. – September 2013

“One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.”
Robert A. Heinlein

This the breakfast I serve myself at home most mornings, maybe not the egg … at all times – Östergatan in Landskrona, Sweden

“I know family comes first, but shouldn’t that mean after breakfast?”
Jeff Lindsay

Have eaten 100’s and 100’s breakfasts all over the world, but so fare Seattle served the ultimate breakfast, maybe not the healthiest – but the tastiest and friendly. At “Lowell’s”, Pike Place Market with a priceless view over Puget Sound.

50/50 orange and grapefruit juice
Fruit bowl
Cappuccino (massive cup)
Sourdough Breakfast Sandwich with hash browns
(grilled sourdough breakfast sandwich Beecher’s flagship cheddar cheese,
scrambled eggs, spinach, tomatoes, choice of sausage patties or bacon, crispy hash browns)
The damage came to $28.00 – in July 2012

  1. A very clever take on the morning challenge Viveka! You definitely had my mouth watering along the way! Beyond your travel descriptions and glorious food though, I so loved the Winnie the Pooh quote – it truly made my day! Thank you for that my friend.

    • Tina, sorry I have missed your comment … so sorry!!! Tina, I love the Winne the Pooh quote, I remembered it when I was finished with the post, so I had to find another place to put it. It’s so so adorable. I just love my breakfasts … and there isn’t many I haven’t enjoyed, even if they have been at times a bit strange. Thank you so much for your kind words.

  2. I don’t know how you remember all those meals, Vivi! You eat like a princess or a heroine 🙂 🙂 I remember our one little cake. Oh, but the company was good! Stay well, my friend.

    • Girlfriend, easy … I have them on my blog!! Only to copy in. But I remember most restaurants and hotel I been staying. Yes, our day in Bristol was fantastic. That little cafe was great, Café Amore – if I don’t remember wrongly – not mention in a post. Hopefully, we will be able to enjoy breakfast together too soon.

  3. Such a delightful read of your blog this evening, Vivi. Good to see you are doing okay in these strange times. This post on breakfast seems timely as I’m hoping many of us are looking at making our food at home these days. Like you, I like a good meal when I wake up and prefer a savoury breakfast or brunch to start the day. Back in my younger days I would have a stack of sweet pancakes for breakfast…then realised savoury would get me through the day much better.

Lovely images all round. Seems you like your eggs in the mornings. The Reuben sandwich looks fabulous. Would make a great lunch or dinner too. That was quite a pricey breakfast in SF but it did look very good 😀 Take care 💕

    • Mabel, thanks for your nice comment about my blog. Means a lot to me. Food those days is very important because there isn’t much else going on. But for me as a retired chef .. food is always an adventure, especially when I travel and I always do meticulous research when it comes to restaurants on my upcoming destinations. I always book them before research. A way to delight myself, I suppose.
Love pancakes for breakfast, my favourite when I visit the US – here at home I eat them for brunch or dinner. I think I will have some for tomorrow dinner, with bacon asparagus and hollandaise sauce with poached egg on top.
      Please keep safe and healthy.

      • Booking a restaurant is always a good idea. If you really want to eat at a restaurant while on holiday, book it to make sure you can get in. I hope you had a nice pancake dinner. It sounds delightful with the other savoury foods 🙂
