One pair of the sixty of period-appropriate shoes out of iron that is included in “The Shoes on the Danube Bank”,  a memorial in Budapest, Hungary, by sculptor Gyula Pauer. That honor the Jews who were killed by fascist Arrow Cross militiamen in Budapest during World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes and were shot at the edge of the water so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away.  It gives remembrance to the 3,500 people, 800 of them Jews, who were shot into the Danube during the time of the Arrow Cross terror

  1. Viveka – you always come up with the best photos, but this one might be my favorite ever. The images are perfect and the quotes are beautifully matched and thought-provoking. One of my personal favorite images, which is one of few I have framed on my walls, is my own image of the shoes on the Danube. I think that memorial may be the most moving I’ve ever seen. Your image is stunning.

    • A-C, thanks … the piglets was in great mood. My friend Irish was all dressed in white … and when she went up to them … the got out of the mud and both shakes their buttock and you can imaging how she looked after that. Brilliant. She toke with a big laughter.

    • Thanks, Dia ….. the burgers was very nice … and the setting they were served at … made them very tasty. I’m hungry too … chicken in the oven just now and it starts to smell good. DinnerHug … we have to talk soon. Miss you.
