During our visit to Berlin a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to enjoy Xu Hongfei’s “Chubby Women”. Xu is challenging our conventional view on beauty and I think he is doing a marvellous job. This little tiny man … really make us see beauty in “fat ladies” – the ladies are twice his own size and on the same time he makes us smile.
He give the viewer both beauty and a big smile. Xu is a very powerful tiny man and an incredible artist.
His art has been on world tours a couple of times and this year the first stop was Berlin and the Fat ladies really gave Berlin a big smile.
Xu Hongfei’s sculptures has been visiting; Beijing, Sydney, Melbourne, Sicily, Tuscany, Paris, Guangzhou, London, Turin, Milan, Florence and Singapore, during 2013-14.
He is the president of the Guangzhou Academy of Sculpture, is a high acclaimed Chinese contemporary sculptor, born in 1963.
Xu, say that size did not inhibit love of life, which he hoped to show with his women, who are seen riding bicycles and skateboards, walking dogs and even leaping on to rather smaller men to deliver kisses.

Fun sculptures! They remind me of the work of Columbian sculptor Botero.

In Ghansk … lovely weather, but today a bit chilly! Poor Oscar … overworked and underpaid. I have heard only good reviews about Riga. Can’t wait to hear and see.
It is a matter of acceptance of your body if you are fat. I have a very fat niece due to hormone imbalance but I have to give her credit, her self-confidence is as huge as herself. Not an ounce of doubt in herself that she’s beautiful.
Good for your nice …. big ladies are able to enjoy life so much as anyone else is .. it’s all in our spirits, soul and heart.
