lens-artists photo challenge # 82 – cap·i·tal

… what an honour to be asked and thought off as the first challenge guest. I really hope I can live up the task.

My name is Viveka but also goes under Wivi. I’m a very nice Swedish lady in my best years (who I’m kidding????!!! Not myself that is for sure)  … that has been blogging since January 2012 – it was supposed to a food/recipe blog (retired executive chef), but I’m so much more and my blog is just like me, all over the place. You will find me under About Viveka”My topic is Capital – it’s my attempt to play with the really “big girls”  *smile

I have chosen the topic/theme, to make it easy for myself!! But also because I have travelled a lot and lived abroad for nearly 24 years. I love big cities with bright lights. I love the pulse, the offers they provided and all the people I will be able to meet. I love food, culture, music, art, history and people. I travel solo most of the times. I’m a very strong and independent woman, in other words, very difficult to live with. *laughing.

It doesn’t have to be about capital cities – however, you want to interpret it – all up to you.

Capital cities are a lot more than famous landmarks, squares, parks and monuments.  So I will take you to some capital cities on a different angle.

I invite you to join me here on the playground because I think we all have images from one or more capitals from around the world on file. You can choose one or more images … one or more cities. It’s all up to you how you will play. Welcome!!!!

“Anyone who thinks sitting in church can make you a Christian
must also think that sitting in a garage can make you a car.”
Garrison Keillor

I visited Warsaw in the company of blogging sister Sue@WordsVisual and we met up with Meg@snippetsandsnaps from Australia, that was living in Warsaw at the time … and when we passed the “Church of the Holy Spirit” in Warsaw Old town (Stare Miasto) I peeked through the door – midday service!!!??? I closed the door very quietly – June 2016.

“I am very fond of fresh air and royalties.”
Daisy Ashford

A wet and cold day … did I visit Amalienborg castle in Copenhagen – the home of the Danish Royal family – together with some friends from Scotland and we were freezing. We were so envy of this guard’s hat – January 2019

“In life, much like smoothies,
you get out what you put in”
Bolthouse Farms

A blueberry smoothie, German-style … at “ALEX” in the Sony Centre, Berlin. It tasted even better than as it looks – July 2018

“Many people spend more time planning the wedding
than they do in planning the marriage.”
Zig Ziglar

I was invited to two weddings in Prishtina, Kosovo. A Kosovo Albanian wedding day is a long day’s journey into night, it means you have to be at the hairdresser at 7am and if you are lucky you end up in bed around 2am without one drop of alcohol in your body. A truly magical experience. Those stunningly beautiful vests is a part of the traditional female wedding dress, called xhamadan. In Prishtina bridal shops are laying side by side … streets up and streets down, a huge business – July 2016

“The stage has two rules: (1) Anything can happen and (2) Something must happen.”
Peter Brook

Of course, I have to take you to my captital, Stockholm. One of the most beautiful cities in the world…  built on 14 islands, but Stockholm has also Ericsson Globe – an arena that has housed many international stars, one of them is Michael Bublé – February 2014

“A happy marriage is a long conversation which always seems too short.”
Andre Maurois

One of many newlywed coupes at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. On Sundays, weddings happen like on a conveyor at the Meiji Shrine in the park. Yoyogi Park is Tokyo’s most practical park is a gathering space for people from all walks of life. When I visit the park there were 8 weddings and  a baptism – April 2015

“The caterpillar does all the work
but the butterfly gets all the publicity.”
Attributed to George Carlin

The Schmetterlinghaus (the butterfly house) is a place I always visit every time I’m in Vienna and that happens roughly  every second year, I have very good friends living there (free pillows) and I’m going back for more in June this year – April 2018

“If you get all tangled up, just tango on.”
Al Pacino

Tbilisi stole my heart … Tbilisi, the city with the big heart and the most fantastic wines … Tbilisi, where the adventure found me. Those two very talented musicians I meet in Rike Park. They played “Libertango” was I arrived. One of many of my favourite music pieces – and I asked them if they could play it for me again … and they did – December 2018

Thank you so much …. for your attention … now I leave it all up to you! Remember to link to my, Viveka’s, original post, and tag it with “Lens-Artists.”

For the rest of February, we’ll return to our usual weekly schedule:

  1. I love that music too, Vivi 🙂 🙂 (I know it should be Wivi, but after all these years I’m not gonna change 🙂 ) Just caught this before I closed down my laptop, and yes, you have created a lovely piece. I never like to go delving in my archives but just this once I might. Always your admirer… Mrs Badly! Laughing…

  7. Very nice selections. The smoothie is a work of art. I like the quotes, also. Particularly Keillor and Ashford. George Carlin is always a favorite. “Whadda ya mean, give back? I didn’t take anything! I earned everything I have!” I was in Stockholm decades ago and went to the musical Grease. It was in Swedish, but I got the idea. Ha!

    • Thanks, John … I did the same mistake in Hamburg – went to see Cats and it was in German of course. Sometimes we learn the hard way. *laughing. Thank you so much for your kind comment. I love Carlin’s “One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor.” I wish you a pleasant Sunday.

  8. A wonderful challenge for this week, Viveka! Your photos tell the culture and people in these special cities. Love the beautiful couple at the Yoyogi Park and the girl feed the butterfly especially. Enjoyed the music!! 🙂

    • Amy, thank you so much … glad you enjoyed my entry, not easy to be on the playground with you girls. *laughing – I love that piece of music. I hope I will find them in the park when I visit over Easter again. So talent guys. Yes, the girl and the butterfly is a lovely image, so innocent. Very pleased with it.

  9. Viveka – a lovely challenge, and one that I would expect from you! Your images both surprised and delighted me – I love that little girl with the butterfly, and the newly weds, and…all of them! Forgive me, but I had to choose Tbilisi as well – a capital Capital! So envious of your new trip out there…

    • A-C, hard to avoid when it comes to Tbilisi, a very special capital. So glad that decided to visit too. Once thanks for putting your trust in me to … host your challenge – it has been a true pleasure and lot of fun.

  24. I agree with Zig Zaglar, Viveka. My nephew’s wedding in Hong Kong last year was a combination of traditional and modern Chinese wedding which was from 7 am to 10 pm. We only went to the church wedding and the cake cutting ceremony in the afternoon and a 9-couse wedding banquet in the evening.
By the way, I went to a Zig Zaglar conference in Los Angeles with him speaking in 1994.

    • Wow, I would have loved to be at a conference where Zig Zaglar is speaking … I can imagine he can keep his audience you awake. I was up for a culture shock in Kosovo – never seen anything like .. but loved it. One of the newlywed had to attend to 23 weddings, 2 was more than enough for me. Would like to miss the experience. Manic and mad. *laughing.

    • I’m not able to leave a comment on your website … for some reason. So I do it here instead.
Wow … you have been around – thank yours for the world tour. Great entry and images …. especially the one with the Swedish crown. Stockholm is one beautiful city and I don’t say that because I’m Swedish. The Junkanoo Beach image … priceless – postcard material. Thank you so much for playing

  42. Hi, Viveka, and thanks for fronting the photo challenge this week. I was very happy to have visited your city of Stockholm years ago around summer solstice. We get relatively long summer days and long winter nights at 49 degrees north, but there’s nothing like longer summer days at the latitude of Stockholm. Being outside in town with bright skies at 11pm and the sun rising by 4am was a lot of fun: who needs sleep around summer solstice? I was fortunate to have dined at the Saluhall in Östermalm, visited Greta Garbo in Skogskyrkogården, walked out to Skeppsholmen, taken the 7 tram to Djurgärden and saw the big wood boat Vasa, and hopped on a boat for a day trip to Vaxholm. I love your capital!

    • Wow, you really made my capital justice – and I’m glad that you got great weather on your back. It’s a fantastic city … with all that water. It’s a small capital … compare to all the others in Europe, same with Copenhagen … and Oslo, Helsinki … the all play in the lower league, but they have a lot to offer to their visitors. Welcome Back!!!
