It’s now 18 months since I revisited Hong Kong and Japan after 36 years … one of the best journeys I ever done, but that is really no surprise. Japan is so magical as everyone says.
I want to take you to Tokyo … that offered loads of rain and cherry blossom in April 2015. Going to tell you the story about the little ball. 
Tokyo Tower (東京タワー Tōkyō tawā?) is a communications and observation tower. At 332.9 metres (1,092 ft), it is the second-tallest structure in Japan. It has the same structure as Eiffel Tower-inspired lattice tower that is painted white and international orange to comply with air safety regulations.
Built in 1958, the tower’s main sources of revenue are tourism and antenna leasing. Over 150 million people have visited the tower. FootTown, a four-story building directly under the tower, houses museums, restaurants and shops. Departing from there, guests can visit two observation decks. The two-story Main Observatory is at 150 metres (490 ft), while the smaller Special Observatory reaches a height of 249.6 metres (819 ft). (text. wikipedia.org)
We can compare Tokyo Tower with the Eiffel tower that currently have about 6.9 million people visitors each year, I think it has done pretty well.
It took one year to build.
When we visit was it a very wet day … the sky was very grey and heavy low. We had learned how to use the metro sort of . 
In 2012 was it time to replace the antenna pole … and then as workers removed sections of the antenna, they found an old baseball! It was inside the antenna, so it must have been placed there during the original construction of the tower.
It had been inside the top of Tokyo Tower for over 54 years. Nobody knows how it got there.
It is suggested that a worker may have been placed it inside the antenna as a joke, or maybe a child lost a ball near the construction site and it ended up inside the antenna tube? They interviewed a former Tokyo Tower construction worker, who says he has no knowledge of such a baseball.

The ball looks like some kind of golden sculpture: all those flower shapes, or chemistry diagrams, and the braiding. Not satisfied with this you also offer umbrellas and a provocative quote. A good accompaniment to Sunday lunch!
It is grayish . and time has made a big hole in it. 54 years in a metal tube. Beautiful anyway. Enjoy lunch!!!!

I’m sure the workers know how it landed there … they put it there … but I think it was very clever of them, because I think they understood what will happen if somebody found it. Some heads have been scratched. Brilliant.

From the picture I thought it was an intricately carved relic! I’d love to know the story of how it got there. Did you know the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is also painted International Orange!
No, I didn’t know. I think it was all grey when I visit den in the late 80’s. I think the ball is beautiful as a piece of art.

Yes, I have been a flying Swede … on Thursday off to Madrid for my birthday.The tower was nothing special .. but the baseball was the highlight for me. Tower is a tower. *laughing.

🙂 In Germany there used to be the tradition that when a house was build a copper tube dug into the ground somewhere. It contained a newspaper, some money (coins and maybe paper money too) and pictures of people who would move into the house. So that if the house ever was torn down many years later that people would have an idea when it was built and who it was built for.
Maybe this ball was a documentation of the time?

Having a fantastic time so far … a very elegant city … so many beautiful buildings … I have given up *smile. Time for some great Spanish food now. Some restaurants don’t open until 9pm. I’m not big on big birthdays celebrations; great food, a great wine and great company.
But the work late too in this city. A big Madrid flavored mug!
