a royal wedding with very personal choices

Last Saturday Sweden got a new princess, Princess Sofia.

When Miss Sofia Hellqvist and Prince Carl Philip said “Yes, I do”brudpar - svtplay se

A beautiful  wedding with tradition and with very personal choices …. first of all the very personal choices for the church music. Like Coldplay’s “Fix You” and Rihanna’s “Umbrella” which was translated to Swedish.

But the beginning of the ceremony and the end … was the cream on the mash.

Sofia enter the “Slottskyrkan” in Stockholm together with her father, Eric, to the tunes of Enya’s “Athair Ar Neamh”

A gospel version of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” was preformed as they made their way out from the church. All the guests was clapping hands and the whole church was swaying.

The  waltz they are dancing to in the video is called “Sofias Brudevals” (Sofia Bridal Waltz) and written to another bride also by name Sofia, in 2010 by the Swedish song writer Pelle Arhio

Sofia wore a wedding dress designed by Ida Sjöstedt. The dress was in three tones of white and was made of crepe-silk who doubled with Italian sidenorganza. The dress and the trailer had edge applications of couture lace by José Maria Ruiz. The veil was made of thin bridal tulle and had applications of sheer cotton lace. Her shoes made by British designer Charlotte Olympia.bridal bouquet

The bridal bouquet consisted of garden roses and myrtle. Having myrtle from Sofiero in the bridal bouquet is a tradition in the royal family. The flowers were in shades of cream and coral and were tied in a suspended form. Carl Philip wore major grade uniform model 1878.Bride and father - kandisnyheter nu

Sofia is vegetarian, so no meat was served at the dinner. Because of her status as a princess and to make things easier for her official obligations has she started to add fish and seafood to her menu.

Carl Philip is like his father, King Carl Gustaf, an excellent chef and been a judge in many competitions and he is also a supporter of the Swedish Culinary Team. He are also is the official patron of the Swedish Bocuse d’Or Academy.

White asparagus, cooked in elderberry with älvdalsroe,
asparagus and chive emulsion.

Coriander cooked lobster with stove seared scallops,
spiced spruce yuzudressing, sorrel and peas.

Fried, lightly salted pike from Lake Hjälmaren
with grilled primeur vegetables, caramelized crème fraiche and smoked butter.

Peach and raspberry tartlet with white chocolate,
champagne and peach sorbet..

For dinner served champagne, riesling, pinot noir and a Sauterne.

Carl Philip is also a race driver – just like his uncle Prince Bertil. Prince Carl Philip made his debut in the STCC 2013, Volvo Polestar Racing, he came 7th. He became champion in the Porsche GT3 Endurance Scandinavia 2010. His daytime job is design with his own beautiful cutlery, and he is a very good photographer too.

In autumn 2006 practiced Prince Carl Philip at the National Geographic, and he has worked very close to one of their most active photographers, Mattias Klum. They have been on many missions together.

Father in Heaven, God bless us
Father in Heaven, God bless me
My soul, my heart, my glory
Praise be to you, oh God

Long is the peaceful day
Long is the night without gloom
Wonder, joy, love
Praise be to you, oh God

I praise you from day to day
I praise you night after night

Father in Heaven, God bless us
Father in Heaven, God bless me
The moon, the sun, the wind
Praise be to you, oh God”

And yesterday we got a new prince too – Princess Madeleine and her husband, Christopher O’Neil .. got a son, their second child. The new prince will become sixth in line to the throne.

But I guess there will not be any Swedish Royal wedding for at least 25 years or so …. and I guess I  will not be around then.

    • Thanks Jo, I think they had the Pinot Noir to the pike and it was from South Africa, not named as such. Every dish was so beautiful – the dessert was so pretty and for the pike they used family service style with serving dishes on every table.

  1. 🙂 It was a beautiful wedding and the way they had things done were very special. I liked the “gospel” side of the music and the idea that everybody was clapping hands when the couple left the church.
I found crown-princess Viktoria very warm hearted – she was wiping away her tears when her brother entered the church. Very sweet to show these kind of emotions.
Thanks for this post and the update on all the info we don’t get here.
    Big hug xo 🙂

    • Yes, Victoria is a very warmhearted and caring person. She and Daniel is such popular couple with us, Swedes, and her wedding was a wedding that was filled to the rim of happiness, she was glowing.
My pleasure …. I will miss the Royal weddings … always put Stockholm on the map and we can see all the tiaras coming out from the European safes. There was some truly stunning dresses at this wedding. Victoria wore a H&M dress from theirs H&M Conscious Collection!, specifically made for her. What a statement … she have wore pieces from that collection before. There was dresses from every designer under the moon on the wedding and she had the most amazing dress.
      Big fashion hug back!

    • Nia, all weddings are romantic … at least they are suppose to be. I love weddings … all kinds. *smile – it was a very special royal wedding. Very personal.
