the best of 2 cities

best of 2 cities

In this post will I mix my own images with borrowed once that Google has provided me with. It’s all my images, except the restaurant galleries and the outlet.

Best breakfast – Coco’s Bakery, Las Vegas
169 E Tropicana Ave
Las Vegas, NV, USA
(702) 736-3936 $$
Without any doubt Las Vegas stood for, 12 min walk from our hotel along Tropicana Ave by Motel 6 did we find the only authentic and real thing in Las Vegas, an American diner with the worst coffee ever. Which was expected.
But their breakfast was outstanding – too generous portions for us Swedes, but very tasty and cheap.
I got the address from Tripadvisor. It’s a franchise that is to be found all over the West side of US.

Best coffee break – Magnolia Bakery, Chicago
108 N State St #128, Chicago, IL 60602, USA
(312) 346-7777 $$
On N State Street we found the best cheese cake I ever had and I had a couple through the years. We went for the raspberry and chocolate one. It was just heavenly, so moist and busted with authentic flavors. The whole concept is based on that you can see the girls baking and making cakes while you enjoy your coffee – the coffee was also the best we had during our 10 days. Their specialty is their FAB cupcakes, they do a daily one – but I don’t like cupcakes … love to adore them, but I don’t like the icing … I want mine “naked” and that means that I rather eat muffins. The café was all in pastel colors, cute and pretty. What I understand is a New York concept.

Best view – Wyndham Grand Riverfront Hotel, Chicago
71 E Upper Wacker Dr, Chicago, IL 60601, USA
(312) 346-7100 4*
It’s going to be hard to beat the view that room 3814 gave us. Priceless and it was all ours thanks to the lovely Anthony that upgraded us on arrival. A massive room with 270 degrees view of Chicago.
Thanks, Anthony!!!!!

Best Wifi- Wyndham Grand Riverfront Hotel, Chicago – see above
It was FREE in all rooms, fast and very stable. Free wifi is something we take for granted as a Swede – 99% of all hotels in Sweden has free WIFI all over the hotel, but US – no chance and it’s also very expensive. A Swedish journalist once said that about American hotel, skip the robes and slippers and give us free Wifi instead.

Best airline – Virgin America
A class in itself – never been on a plane with such comfort and style. Just WORLD CLASS!!! Mr Richard Branston has got this down to a teeth. Also they also provided the best “special assistance” or as they call it escort service for AL. I would never found our way to the International terminal at San Francisco’s airport. It was miles to walk – long as the Strip – no transit connection what so ever. We had to leave the domestic terminal – walk for miles … take a train to Terminal G and walk miles . And very bad signed, no direction what so ever. SAS check-in was pitiful in SF!!!!

Best cocktail & wine – Roy’s, Las Vegas
620 E Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89119, USA
(702) 691-205 $$$
When I think about it I can taste it …. Pacific Rim Cosmotini, contains;
Vodka – Ginger – Passion Fruit – Blood Orange
A Hawaiian fusion restaurant with beautiful décor and ambient with new thinking – rated was the best restaurant in Vegas by Tripadvisor??????!!!! We the tasting menu, 3 courses – I liked it very much, but …. it did blow my socks off. But their cocktail did, in more and one way … I could have slicked the glass.
They provided us with the best wine too, Whitehaven, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc …. A truly outstanding wine and perfectly chilled. Most restaurants serve their white wines far too cold

Best bread and butter –Tommy Bahama’s Tropical Café, Las Vegas
6635 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, (Town Sq) NV 89119, USA
(702) 948-8006 $$
Our second evening we left the Strip and took the bus down to Town Sq – a beautiful shopping and dining area in the back of the airport. Well protected from tourists. The bread was served oven warm and the butter had been whisked with cinnamon and maple syrup. I think that’s what heaven is all about. Their Grilled Baby Back Pork Ribs was dribbling good!
Tommy Bahama is a Seattle-based manufacturer of casual, men’s and women’s sportswear and activewear, denim, swimwear, accessories, footwear and a complete home furnishings collection – with stores and restaurants all over the world. Very island influenced. In 2007 launched their own brand of rum.

Best dinner – BEATRIX, Chicago
519 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60654, USA
(312) 284-1377 $$
A new bright star on the Chicago Gastro Sky!!!! It have been around for about 2 years, but in Chicago that is new and fresh. Bright as the Polar Star!!!!
Busy and vibrant, fully packed – we had to wait 15 min for our table, but we killed those minutes in the bar with some fancy cocktails.
Everything they served us was so well prepared and so full of flavors. We both had pork shank and it is the best pork dish I ever eaten.

Best seafood – Devon Seafood Grill, Chicago
39 E Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60611, USA
(312) 440-8660 $$$
My friend AL said that their Seafood Mix Grill is the best fish and seafood dish she ever had.
SEAFOOD MIXED GRIL; shrimp, scallops, salmon, jumbo lump crab cake, whipped yukon gold potatoes, grilled asparagus
I had the same dish and it is very good – but I had a couple of dishes that has been slightly better.
My blogging sister Lou’s trout was beautiful.
They have restaurants on 5 other locations; , Milwaukee, WI., Philadelphia, PA., Hershey, PA., Oakbrook Terrace, IL., and Miami, FL.

Best fountain – The Bellagio, Las Vegas
3600 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109, USA
(702) 693-7111 5*
Sorry Chicago!
Even if Chicago has so many amazing and beautiful fountains …. Belliago’s fountain is hard to beat. It’s truly magnificent! It changes shape and form by every display, once every 15 min in the evening.

Best restrooms – Caesar Palace, Las Vegas
3570 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89109, USA
(702) 731-7110 5*
I never have been to public restrooms like theirs … so stunningly beautiful, clean and smelled so good without being overpowering. I don’t dare to think what their guest rooms are like if restrooms have a standard like that.

Best casino – Caesar Palace, Las Vegas – see above
For no other reason than it was there we won most money. None of the casinos we visit was very busy. I would say that only 40% of each casino had customers. What I understand is Atlantic City hit hard by the reseastion and hotels are struggling. It was very noticeable in Las Vegas and no wonder the hotels are giving away their rooms.

Best shopping – North and South Premium Outlets, Las Vegas
North Premium Outlet
7400 Las Vegas Boulevard South
Las Vegas, NV 89123
(702) 896-5599
Just go there …. So cheap and all the big brands are there. The same bus goes from Outlet to Outlet. Use the SDX strip buses.
The North Outlet was a bit more upmarket – full of Japanese tourists, but all the American brands are the same, a lot more natives shopping at the South Outlet.
We did a little shopping. AL had a shopping list from her son and his family and we found nearly everything. I found a pair of Aerosole sandals that saved my saved my feet and sense.
I think Las Vegas has about 12 Louis Vuitton shops – every big exclusive hotel has their shop. Not to be find at the Outlets. *smile
South Premium Outlet
875 South Grand Central Parkway
Las Vegas, NV 89106
(702) 474-7500outlet south - lasvegas com

Best place to return to …. HOME!!!!
