Now you all think that Viveka are getting down and dirty – naught, naught !!!! It’s adult toys – but not of that kind … wishfully thinking, folks.
… one I got from my friends in Victoria when visiting them – saw one of the top chef’s on the TV using one and I was smitten by it, an egg poacher for the microwave. He created the most stunning breakfast with everything out of a microwave, so I had to have one.
While I was shopping for bags and dresses, my friend had phoned his wife and asked where to find one – at London Drugstore, for a price of CAN$3.95 – so he bought one and gave to me. Haven’t used until last week when it was time for grilled bacon, Heinz beans, boiled potatoes and all topped with a poached egg. One of my favorite meals.
It took a couple of trails before I got it perfect for my taste – 50 sec is all that I need using my micro. No more messing around with salt, vinegar and slow boiling water. Love it.
When I visit my friend Margurithe – she used her Tupperware omelette micro form – what a tool. So she put the form in my bag – she where going to a Tupperware party in the evening as I left in the afternoon. I’m useless on doing omelettes – in a pan on the stove – in the oven they comes out great every time.
So the Tupperware form I used the other evening – had laundry afternoon – and that means I will not eat before 8pm – so a omelette and a little salad – something quick and painless. A great opportunity to use the form. I just put in some defrosted vegetable mix, soft fried diced bacon and onion. I put the grated cheese and season in with the egg and milk mixture; 4 eggs and 2tbsp milk, sprinkled with some of Findus frozen Italian herb mix. And 5 mins later – Voila!!! Magic had happen.
Both toys are very energy saving too. It take less energy for do a poached egg in the micro wave then on the stove and with me only omelettes in the oven it’s a massive saving.
So me as woman – not much into Ipad and Iphone – I’m very contempt with my two plastic toys, sometime we women are very simple creatures. I bet they both been on the market for years – but for me they are new and still fun to play with. *smile

This was interesting dear Viveka, Thank you, love, nia
have fun with your new toys! You make everything look so tasty!!!
…. really a very simple soul when it’s about my own cooking and dinner – but it has to taste good – looking good – more down to camera.
Definitely a cool kitchen toy
Cheers

Yes, I really fond of my new toys. *smile
technology implies lesser energy demands ——–> more lifestyle diseases…stl, all ladies enjoy these new innovations, making cooking an interesting affair… thnx for sharing, Viveka!!

Rose, thank you for your support – really fantastic gadgets and the results are great with them, but it was a bit of playing around before I got the timing right. Anything that makes my cooking life … easier I will go for. If it carries on too long I lose interest – when I cook for me as a lonely diner.
no wonder, Viveka, in the fast moving world & handy tech, nobody would think otherwise… so, ENJOYY!!

I do my baked potatoes on a plastic spike in the microwave. Perfect!
I don’t the micro waved potatoes – they don’t get the crispy skin then … Sure it works fine.
so you crack the egg and place it in the poached egg holder and add any ingredients you wish, and then how long in the microwave?
terry for the poacher – you crack the eggs – price the egg yolk with a fork and put a tsp of water over the egg. It all depends on your micro wave and how hard you you want your egg poached. – for the omelette dish you put your ingredients int the bottom – you whisk egg and milk together – if you want cheese or ham in your omelette you put that into the egg/mix mixture and pour over the vegetable – or if plain into the form. 4 min I would say for a 2 egg omelette.
I’ve got one of these because even I can’t mess this up
Fantastic .. now we are two members in the – can’t mess up club. *smile
I love how you spoil you with good cooking.
Colleen, I’m a very simple cook .. when it’s about myself – when I cook for friends I can be at it for days .. but for me alone, still I like tasty food but it has to go quick otherwise I lose interest half way through. Have been a chef for over 35 years nearly and I loved my job, but at home a different matter.
I get that. Since my children “grew up” and moved out I bet I haven’t cooked fifteen meals. If that. And it’s usually been for them. We eat simple at home. I like that you do ‘simple’ but you do it well!
Yes, what I would say …. cook simple and do it well, even as executive chef did I put complicated dishes on the menu. Small menu .. and excellent quality is my goal.
I was a “good” cook. I felt it very important to have meals together every single day as my children grew up. Now I eat simply. Too simply. But..that’s okay too. I was never a great cook and have forgotten most of what I knew!
So what do you eat today ?????
I have a green smoothie for breakfast. We purchase a natural made, and very heavy bread, from the farmers market every week for toast or with nutella. I eat a lot of salads for lunch or dinners, with some tuna, or grilled chicken. I usually have my biggest meal for lunch during work. I eat way too much junk. Even if it is “healthy” junk. But now I am off to work! I will pick up with you later! I hope you have a great day. And many smiles during the living of it.
Looks delicious
it was …. and those two toys .. make my life much quicker when about poached egg and omelettes – can’t do a proper omelette even.
I was in a small deli once and they’d start the omelette on the stove and then slide it into the oven, they came out much better that way. The REAL question is, does it taste good?
Because of the title of this post, I was nervous to click it.
I loved your article – but the music!!! It was so much an advertisement, surely? It was romantic…. but still an ad. Very funny
Know you lost me .. the music is about eggs .. how can that be romantic ????!!!!! It’s ad music for eating more egg – but I think it’s fun and goes well with my toys that I use for eggs only. I like the little song – we can’t be too serious when it’s about eggs .. or can we ??? *laughter
You’re so funny …. I can’t hear any passion at all – funny how we can pick up different messages from a little ad-song – wired and wonderful. Love your ears … *smile
Your two new toys seem to simplify your life and that is always nice.
Yes, useless doing omelets anyhow.
